Signature collection launched for petition against restrictions on the analysis of court decisions

The civic organization VENIA announces that the official signature collection for petition No. 4067 has been opened on the website of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies.

The petition opposes provisions of draft law No. 8721, which would introduce criminal liability for using data from court decisions to analyze, compare, or evaluate judicial practices.

We believe that the proposed provision creates serious risks for freedom of expression, investigative journalism, scientific and legal research, and the transparency of the judicial system. Journalists, researchers, lawyers, IT developers, and civil society representatives could be affected.

Court decisions are public information, and their analysis plays an important role in ensuring judicial transparency and public oversight.

We call for the controversial provision to be reconsidered, for journalism, scientific research, and public-interest activities to be excluded from its scope, and for restrictions to be limited only to genuinely abusive practices.

At least 5,500 signatures are required for the petition to be debated publicly in Parliament.

We encourage everyone to support the initiative and share this information widely. More details are available on our website.
